SAS Sport Streetball Showdown
SAS Sport has great news for sports fans. We’ve helped bring streetball royalty to South Auckland for NZ’s greatest streetball contest ever!
SAS SPORT ATTRACTS NEW YORK’S FINEST
Streetball royalty is heading to The Den at Bruce Pulman Park to take part in the fiercest streetball battle New Zealand has ever seen.
The legendary Team 914, from the Bronx, New York is travelling more than 14,000 kilometres to tackle South Auckland’s The Den Streetballers in a best-of-five showdown on Saturday-week (17 February 2018).
The SAS Sport InnerCity Streetball challenge is the first international fixture for the purpose-built outdoor court in Takanini and event organiser Glen Green says his dream encounter “just got real”.
“This is the first time we’ve had a match-up of this stature in New Zealand,” Green said. “Team 914 has won the prestigious Dyckman League, beating Kevin Durant’s Team Nike on the way to the final, and they win in New York against the best there is, so they’re street ball royalty.
“This is a real street battle and no team wants to lose, especially as word about this intercity challenge is doing the rounds in New York and is blowing up on social media.”
Sponsorship support from SAS Sport means Green has secured “Aaron “The Problem” Williams, in the streetball All-Time top 10 rankings, who is bringing out teammates “Super Dave” Seagers, currently playing professionally in Manilla, and a real-life Bronx police officer nicknamed Robo Cop, who is “smashing it” on the New York streetball circuit.
Williams says he respects the South Auckland team led by seasoned NBL big man Benny Anthony Junior, but he isn’t travelling to the other side of the world to lose.
“We need to show them Kiwis how NY Ballers really ball,” Williams said.
This InterCity clash is definitely generating a buzz here in New York and I expect the game to be very competitive. I know my boys are coming to play hard and playing to win.
Entertainment will start from 7pm, with the best-of-five event taking place between 8pm – 10pm.
Entry is FREE with beats from DJ Seymour.
